Hi Kids,
My website is almost 100% ready. And here is my second piece just for you.
Do you have a favorite movie? Mine is called “The Sound of Music.” In this movie are several songs, including “My Favorite Things.” Julie Andrews’ character Maria sings about her favorite things: raindrops on roses, whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens…(just to mention a few. Check the movie and songs out someday.)
What are your favorite things? Why? Make a list of your favorite things; it could even turn out to be a list poem. Next time I write here for you, I will put on a list poem of my favorite things. It is fun to do AND amazing to see how many things we really do like/love. If you write a “favorites” list poem, I would feel honored if you would let me read them.
What Makes me Happy, What Makes me Smile
To hear a baby giggle makes me giggle, too
To see an old barn freshly painted, bright red
To smell roast turkey or Cherry Wink cookies in the oven and then of course to eat them
To watch kittens play, to hold and pet them till they fall asleep in my lap
To play a newly-tuned piano and of course to sing a few songs
To sing, to read, to pray
Friends make me happy: to visit with them, even better to give and get hugs from them, and to make new friends whenever I can
I love to hear, “Please” “Thank you” or “Excuse me” without being prompted. True manners
To take the challenge of a piece of music
A blank piece of paper to write a story or poem on, or a mini gourd to paint a unique character on
But most of all, the thing that makes me happy is to see the glimmer in a student’s eyes, the light that goes on when they “get it”, when they have understood what I have told them and created their own masterpiece.
